What Mums Really Want for Mother’s Day…
There’s nothing wrong with flowers or brunch, but when every café is packed and there’s only the bedraggled flowers left to buy the night before, it can feel a bit… repetitive.
Mother’s Day doesn’t need to be big or expensive to hit the mark. What mums really want is simpler than that: an actual break and a thoughtful gesture from the people she loves most.
We asked our Roamies what they ACTUALLY wanted for Mother’s Day, and here’s what they told us.
Zero mental load
Spending time together as a family is a great start, but aim to let Mum walk out of the house without a second thought about finding, planning or booking the activity, or making sure the bag is stocked, and the household is ready to go.
A thoughtful card
Store-bought cards with a generic message aren’t the vibe. Chuck some pencils at the kids and get decorating! If you’re not great with words, crowdsource the kids’ favourite things about their mum for inspiration and write a personal message about her.
A sleep-in
A fabulous, simple, cost-free option as long as the kids are entertained. A moment of quiet is golden, so keep them busy with making breakfast, making a card, or something else.
A silent moment of self-care
A facial, a massage or spa treatment was a top pick. Mum does so much caring for others. Let her be pampered and cared for by someone else in silence (or spa tunes).
Something hobby-specific
If she has a hobby outside of mothering, get a specific gift for that. A magazine, or hobby gear and accessories are bound to delight. If she’s a skincare gal, the team at Mecca will have her past purchases on record and would be happy to help!
A night alone in a hotel
and then picked up for a family brunch in the morning
Specific, yes. But the perfect mix of quiet rest, pampering, and fun family time. Just be sure to book your brunch spot ahead of time so she doesn’t have to give that part a second thought.
At the end of the day, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Mothers’ Day can absolutely feel special and thoughtful no matter what the budget is.
Just aim for a day where Mum gets to be looked after for once, and isn’t busy coordinating everything in the background.
