We asked you for your recommendations, and we’ve put together our definitive list of cafés in Wellington that are perfect for coffee group meet-ups with prams in tow.
Everything we’ve listed here has lots of space for prams, great coffee, and baby changing facilities.
Picnic Café, Botanic Gardens
Picnic Café in the Begonia House at the Botanic Gardens is our top spot for coffee group meet-ups. The café has plenty of space for groups of prams both inside and out as well as a big grassy area. It feels relaxing and tranquil as it’s part of the botanic gardens, and it’s easy to pair a walk with coffee. They also have colouring in for older kids, and the botanic gardens playground is nearby. The Botanic Gardens toilets nearby have an accessible bathroom with baby changing facilities.
Zephyr Café & Bar
Zephyr is a super modern eatery in the Tākina Convention Centre with absolutely excellent food and lots of space for multiple prams, making it ideal for coffee groups. They have baby changing facilities in the bathroom, and it’s close to the Wellington waterfront for a coastal stroll after your coffee.
The Borough, Tawa
The Borough has a lovely covered courtyard with lots of space for prams, and is a great child-friendly establishment with a play area, if you have an older child in tow too. The food is fantastic, and it’s right next to the Tawa Library.
Common Ground, Johnsonville
Common Ground in Johnsonville is a great pick as it’s really close to the Johnsonville Library. There’s lots of space at the tables in the foyer and on the library side for groups of prams. It’s very accessible, with plenty of parking, a nearby bus stop and it’s close to the train station. The library has toilets with baby changing facilities, and a great kids section.
Kai Tahi, Porirua
Kai Tahi is a modern and clean food court with loads of room for big groups. They have a range of places to buy coffee and food from, so everyone will find something they want to eat. The toilets have baby changing facilities, and it’s within walking distance to Pātaka Museum, which has an excellent kids’ room with murals and displays that babies would enjoy looking at.
Hey Coastie, Waikanae Beach
Our Kāpiti pick is Hey Coastie. The accessible entrance is up the driveway, rather than directly from the street, and there’s lots of room inside and out for prams. The outdoor area is leafy with a tropical vibe, and there’s a bonus play area for any older kids in tow. The coffee is excellent, and their changing table often has a few spare nappies and wipes underneath if you’re caught short.
Benedict’s, Lower Hutt
Benedict’s is a crowd favourite for coffee groups and is our top pick for The Hutt! It’s really inviting and also has lounge settings to relax into for feeding babies and baby change facilities in the bathroom. It’s popular with coffee groups thanks to the generous space, good coffee and decent-sized play area for older siblings.
