Mexico

Kids eat free every Sunday at Mexico Britomart, Ellerslie, or Sylvia Park. Enjoy a free meal from the kids menu with any adult purchase of $25 or more. Open 12pm - late.

Restaurant type: Modern Mexican

On the menu: Mexican favourites for the adults, including nachos, tacos, and quesadillas, as well as specialties such as slow-cooked beef brisket croquettes, spicy fried cauliflower bites, and veggie-filled corn cups. Little foodies can choose from guacamole, tacos, or quesadillas, and cinnamon churros or chocolate brownies for dessert. 

Good to know: The kids menu comes with a fun sudoku game for kids and cheerful cacti to colour in. 

Something & Social

Kids eat free every Sunday between 2pm-7pm. Dine at Westfield Albany or Newmarket. 

Albany is open from 11am-9pm Sunday-Wednesday and 11am-10pm Thursday-Saturday. Newmarket is open from 11am-10pm Monday to Friday and 10am-10pm Saturday-Sunday.

Restaurant type: Gastro pub

On the menu: ‘Social staples’ for the grownups include steak, fish and chips, and burgers, or opt for garden plates such as a beluga lentil salad or spiced beef bowl. Something & Social also does stretched pizzas, ribs, meatballs, arancini balls, fish, pasta, risotto, and more! Good to know: Something & Social Newmarket is in the rooftop dining area and there’s a little slide and play area adjacent — great in the summer months!

Mr Tanaka’s, Ellerslie

Kids eat free every Saturday, Sunday, and school holidays. Offer available to kids under 12 accompanied by one paying adult. Open daily from 11:30am-late. 

Restaurant type: Japanese

On the menu: The main menu includes an abundance of Yakitori-inspired skewers, sashimi, and sharing plates. Little foodies can choose between Karaage chicken or tofu served with broccoli and rice. 

Good to know: Mr Tanaka’s runs a happy hour menu every day from 3pm-6pm, offering $10 draft beer, $10 prosecco, and 2 for 1 Karaage chicken. 

Horse & Trap, Mt Eden

Kids eat free all day on Sundays. Offer available to kids 12 years and under and with each adult meal purchased. Open daily from 11:30am-late. 

Restaurant type: Classic pub fare 

On the menu: From steak, eggs & chips to the chef’s daily stew, there’s something for everyone! On Sundays, you can enjoy a proper Sunday roast with all the trimmings. There’s plenty for little foodies to enjoy, including fish & chips, burgers, and more. 

Good to know: If the weather’s good, see if you can reserve a table outside so you can watch the trains go by.

Olea Cafe, Highbrook

Kids eat free on weekends. Enjoy one free kids meal per one full paying adult. Open 7am-3pm Monday-Friday and 8am-3pm Saturday-Sunday. 

Restaurant type: All-day café

On the menu: Ample brunch options for the adults, including classics like smashed avocado and eggs benedict, and unique options like truffle mushroom French toast and Mexican omelette. Mains such as burgers, pasta, fish & chips, steak, and pizza are available from lunchtime onwards. There’s a special kids menu for little ones.

Good to know: There’s a kid’s play area inside. Olea Cafe is also a great spot for baby showers, offering a great bubbles & brunch deal for $30 per head.

The Grange, Takapuna

Kids eat free, Monday to Thursday from 5:30-7:30pm, all year round. Open daily 9:30am-late. 

Restaurant type: All-day bar and bistro 

On the menu: Too many options to list! There are separate menus for brunch, lunch, long lunch, working lunch, dinner, dessert, and even Valentine’s Day. The kids menu keeps things simple, offering fish, chicken or beef sliders with chips or salad and an ice cream or sorbet scoop for dessert. 

Good to know: If you time it right, you might be able to enjoy the sunsetting from the Greenhouse dining area. 

Milford Motel, Milford

Kids eat free every Wednesday from 4pm-7:30pm. Open Tuesday-Sunday 11:30am-late. 

Restaurant type: Gastro pub 

On the menu: For the adults, Milford Motel offers some fancy fare — think spicy tuna tartare, fresh burrata, and chicken liver parfait. There are also classic options including burgers and pizza. For the kids, there are five options: beef slides & fries, fish & chips, chicken sliders & fires, mini Margherita pizza, and popcorn chicken. 

Good to know: There’s a play area for the kids outside. Parking can be a bit tricky; you might need to walk a few hundred metres.

The Good Home, Onehunga 

Kids eat free every Sunday from 4pm onwards with every full priced adult meal. Open daily, 11am - late. 

Restaurant type: Contemporary pub

On the menu: Sharing plates, burgers, classic mains, salads, and pizzas for the grown ups; simple staples for the little ones, such as fish & chips.

Good to know: The building was once the Onehunga community’s central library, so you can dine against a backdrop of books. 

Percy Cafe & Eatery, Mangere 

Kids eat free on weekends. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-2:30pm. 

Restaurant type: Café

On the menu: There’s an all-day menu for the adults featuring brunch options like eggs benedict and smashed avocado, as well as hearty lunches like loaded chips with Korean fried chicken and a 200 GMS sirloin beef steak. The kids menu isn’t available on the website but reviews suggest there are plenty of options, as well as lots of cabinet food to choose from, too, including gelato! 

Good to know: There’s a small outdoor kid’s playground on the premises.

Bricklane, New Lynn

Kids eat free on Sundays. Open daily, 11am-late. 

Restaurant type: Restaurant & bar 

On the menu: There are multiple menus for the grown ups, including daily specials, an all-day menu, a weekday lunch menu, and a bar snacks menu. Kids can choose from fish, fried chicken, chicken nuggets or hot dogs and chips, beef burger, or bacon & mushroom penne. 

Good to know: The kids’ drink menu features some old-school classics, such as a Cola Spider (cola and cream) and a Pink Panther (raspberry lemonade and cream). 

Clara Cafe, Northwest

Get a free ice cream with any kids meal all year round. Open daily 8am-6pm. 

Restaurant type: Café

On the menu: There’s elevated brunch and lunch fodder for the adults (think truffle mushroom & chorizo on toast or teriyaki salmon with soba noodles) and classic favourites like chicken nuggets and chips for the kids. 

Good to know: Clara Cafe offers an elegant high tea experience if you’re looking for something a bit different to do with older children.  

Cleaver & Co, New Lynn

Kids eat free on Sundays from 3pm onwards. Offer available for kids 12 and under and with every adult meal. Open 11:30am-9:30pm Monday-Thursday, 11am-10pm Friday-Saturday, and 11am-9pm Sunday.

Restaurant type: Authentic BBQ 

On the menu: Lots of slow-cooked meat for the adults, as well as classics like chicken parmigianas, salads, and burgers. The kids menu includes three options: beef burger, fish bites, or chicken nuggets. All kids meals include a juice or soda and a jelly & ice cream. 

Good to know: There are vegan and vegetarian options available, but veggies beware: it’s known as “the home of slow cooked BBQ meat”! 

Little Creatures, Hobsonville 

Kids aged 12 and under eat free every Sunday from 4-8pm. Offer available with every large plate purchased. Open 12pm-9pm Sunday-Thursday and 12pm-10pm Friday-Saturday. 

Restaurant type: Gastro pub & brewery 

On the menu: The classic menu is varied, with everything from raw fish to bratwurst. There’s also a dedicated vegan and vegetarian menu. Kids can choose from a cheeseburger, classic American hotdog, spaghetti bolognese, fish and chips, or a Margherita pizza. 

Good to know: Little Creatures is located right on the waterfront in Hobsonville, just along from the weekend markets. With a dedicated kid’s area (featuring a fort for older kids, soft play for little ones, chalk board walls, and an old-school arcade game), it’s a great place to call in after the Hobsonville Point Coastal Walkway.

Morepork BBQ, Kumeu 

Dine during family hours every Thursday & Friday from 4-6pm and enjoy one free kids meal for every adult meal purchased. Desserts excluded and kids must be aged 12 and under. Open 4pm-9pm Thursday and 11:30am-9pm Friday-Sunday. Closed Monday-Wednesday. 

Restaurant type: American BBQ

On the menu: Lots of BBQ fodder with some vegetarian options. The kids menu includes southern fried chicken tenders, mac ‘n’ cheese, cheese quesadilla, all-American hotdog, cheeseburger & fries, and a brownie sundae. 

Good to know: There’s an onsite gift shop selling sauces, spice rubs, and meat packs.

The Attic, New Lynn

Kids eat free all school holidays. Open 4pm-9:30pm Tuesday-Thursday, 12-10pm Friday-Saturday, and 12-10:30pm Sunday. Closed Mondays. 

Restaurant type: Gastro pub

On the menu: The Attic prides itself on using free range produce to create New Zealand inspired dishes. The menu is varied, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. The kids menu includes classics such as chicken nuggets, American hotdogs, pasta, and burgers. There’s the option to swap fries for coleslaw on any kids meal. 

Good to know: The Attic is now located in the heart of New Lynn, but it used to be in Mission Bay — just in case you remember it from years gone by! 

The Beekeeper’s Wife, Riverhead

Kids meals are half-price every Sunday from 4pm onwards. Open 7:30am-3pm Monday-Tuesday, 7:30am-8pm Wednesday-Friday, and 8am-8pm Saturday-Sunday.

Restaurant type: All-day café

On the menu: The Beekeeper’s Wife is open from brunch through to dinner, offering breakfast-favourites such as eggs and smoothies in the morning, expanding to pizzas, fish, steak, tapas, and more as the day goes on. The Junior Beekeeper’s Menu includes family favourites such as fish and chips, chicken nuggets, pizzas and cheese toasties. 

Good to know: It’s open for breakfast every day, but only open for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. 

The Landing Restaurant, Riverhead

Kids eat free in the Landing Restaurant Monday-Thursday. Get one free kids meal with every adult main meal. Offer open for kids aged 12 and under. Open daily 11am-8:30pm. 

Restaurant type: Gastro pub

On the menu: Menus change seasonally, but you can generally expect a variety of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Kids can choose from fish & chips, burger, chicken schnitzel, steak, or tomato penne pasta. 

Good to know: There are three eateries within the Riverhead: The Landing, The Portage Bar, and The Boat House. To take advantage of the ‘kids eat free’ special, make sure you eat at The Landing.
