Best Pram Friendly Walks in Auckland
Getting out for a walk with a pram is one of the best things you can do with a baby or toddler in tow: fresh air, movement, and if you're lucky, a sleeping baby along the way.
We've pulled together our favourite pram-friendly walks across Auckland, from a quick 20-minute loop to half-day adventures.
Mt Eden Summit Walk, Central Auckland
Mt Eden Summit is the highest natural point in Auckland so the views are amazing, and it’s pram friendly! It’s also suitable for small kids and makes a great adventure.
There are some stairs on the crater walk, but this is optional - you can still get to the summit without tackling this portion.
Mt Eden Summit Walk - the highest natural point in Auckland!
Cornwall Park, Central Auckland
Cornwall Park is a great place for a pram-friendly walk with lots of parking and cafes. The loop around the Maungakiekie is 3km long and is completely pram friendly, and you can also walk to the summit to check out the great view across Auckland. Kids also love spotting the farm animals along the way.
Western Springs Lake Walk, Central Auckland
The walk around Western Springs Lake is 1.75km long, with an epic playground half way, many spots for a picnic, and lovely lake views. It’s completely pram and bike friendly, with lots of bird life to watch and eels under the bridge to spot.
Western Springs also have an epic playground with toddler equipment too!
Smith’s Bush, North Shore
Smith’s Bush is one of our favourite spots, and is guaranteed to fill your nature cup. The whole track is a boardwalk, so it’s super pram friendly and it’s short enough for little legs if you have an older one too. The bush is thick with many birds flitting through the trees. Parking is easy with heaps of parking at the Takapuna Cricket Club, by the entrance to the track.
Smith’s Bush is just a 20 minute pram and toddler friendly loop.
Shepherd’s Park Path, North Shore
Shepherd’s Park in Beach Haven is a lovely pram friendly coastal walk. At the Melba Street end, there’s a small carpark and public toilets, or you can begin at the new Shepherd’s Park Playground and walk past the sports fields to make it a longer walk too!
Hobsonville Point Coastal Loop Walk, West Auckland
The Hobsonville Point Coastal Loop Walk follows the water around the Point, and is a combination of board walk and gravel, with a small suburban portion to complete the loop between the waterfront and the east end of Bomb Point. There are a couple of public toilets along the way, as well as coffee and snack stops at Catalina Bay. It’s 5km all up, so is great for a long nap on the go.
Opanuku Stream Path and Cycleway, West Auckland
Opanuku Stream Path and Cycleway is an excellent track for a longer walk.
The entire path is 4km one way, and runs between Henderson and Henderson Valley so there are multiple entrances, but if you’re wanting to walk the whole way, the best place to start is the Corban Estate Arts Centre.
Te Whau Pathway, West Auckland
The new Te Whau Pathway in Te Atatu is open, and a lovely harbour boardwalk suitable for prams. The latest section to open has made the walk 1.3km in each direction! There are starting points at the Northwestern cycleway entrance at the Te Atatu motorway on-ramp, Rotary Reserve and Roberts Field.
Pakuranga Rotary Path, East Auckland
This is an 18km pram friendly coastal walk - we're not suggesting you take on the whole path, but you can pick a section and do as much (or as little) as you like! It goes all the way from Prince Regent Drive in Farm Cove to the Panmure Bridge.
The walk passes playgrounds, reserves, toilets, and a number of beautiful picnic spots.
Auckland Botanic Gardens, South Auckland
A lovely spot for a low-key stroll is the Botanic Gardens in Auckland. There are picnic spots, toilets and a cafe onsite, and you can explore as much or as little of the gardens as you like, at your own pace.
Don’t miss the Children’s Garden at the Auckland Botanic Gardens.
Pāhurehure Esplanade Path, South Auckland
Pāhurehure Esplanade Path is a 2.6km track suitable for prams and bikes along the Pāhurehure Inlet. There’s multiple places to start including on Gills Ave, and on Elliot Street near the RSA.
