The best birthday party venues in Auckland (as voted by locals!)

If there’s one question we get asked almost as often as “where’s the best playground” it’s this: “where can I host kids’ birthday parties?”

So, we asked the Roam With Kids community to share their favourite birthday party venues in Auckland — and wow, they delivered!

From indoor playgrounds to cosy cafés, here’s a locals-approved guide.

Indoor playgrounds and activity centres

Rain or shine, these indoor playgrounds and activity centres are ideal for high-energy kids who love to move.

BOUNCE (Avondale, North Shore, Takanini)

BOUNCE party packages include a dedicated BOUNCE party host, a gift for the birthday child, 40 minutes in a party room with food, and BOUNCE grip socks for each guest. You can even add catering to make life even easier.

NHG Gymnastics (Auckland-wide)

Available for children aged five and up, NHG parties are a huge hit among kids who love to test their physical limits. After an action-packed hour in the gym with an experienced coach, wind down with 45 minutes in a party room for cake, food, and gifts.

My Wonderland (North)

So many ROAM parents and caregivers rave about the party packages at My Wonderland indoor playground. With a themed room, unlimited all-day play, kids’ meals and snacks, and a party photo, certificate, and gift for the birthday boy or girl — what more could you ask for?!

Community halls and centres

Community halls are a brilliant option for birthday parties on a budget. Bring your own food, decorations, and run the show your way.

Devonport Plunket Room (North)

The Devonport Plunket Room is a spacious room with comfortable sofas, kid-sized tables and chairs, and a large kitchen. But the real drawcard is the huge, fully-fenced playground and grass area. It’s a great option for all ages — younger kids love the playground, and the grass area offers enough space for a game of backyard football or cricket.

Grey Lynn Community Centre (Central)

You can choose from four great venues at Grey Lynn Community Centre. The most popular choice for kids’ birthday parties is The Garden Room, which opens out onto a playground. There’s also the Main Hall for large parties, or the Oval or Balcony rooms for small gatherings.

Herald Island Community Hall (West)

If you live in Auckland’s Northwest, be sure to add Herald Island Community Hall to your list of party venues. This spacious, light-filled venue comes with a kitchen and is right next to a fenced playground.

Mt Albert YMCA Rattray Room (Central)

The Rattray Room at Mt Albert YMCA is purpose-built for kids. With space for about 30 kids and 20 adults, it opens out onto a spacious, securely-fenced deck complete with a shade sail and sandpit. The room also comes with child-sized tables and chairs and a kitchen sink.

Oratia Small Hall (West)

The Oratia Small Hall (located next to the larger Oratia Settlers’ Hall) is a cosy heritage venue with lovely indoor-outdoor flow and a fully fenced playground. There are plenty of tables and chairs, as well as a full kitchen.

Playcentres (Auckland-wide)

Playcentres are a hidden gem when it comes to birthday parties. Many across Auckland can be hired for private events, offering safe, fully fenced outdoor playgrounds, spacious indoor areas, and loads of toys and play equipment.

Ranui Community Centre (West)

Ranui Community Centre is ideal for large parties. You can rent up to two big rooms plus a communal hall with a kitchen. Each room fits over 40 people comfortably, or 100 people if you use the outdoor area.

Sandringham Community Centre (Central)

Tucked just behind Sandringham village, this lovely community centre is a favourite for local birthday parties. There’s a full kitchen and the indoor playroom opens straight out onto a fully fenced playground.

Cafés with play areas

For a low-key, coffee-fuelled celebration, these cafés offer private rooms or reserved areas.

Fields Café (North)

This family-friendly café is better suited to school-aged kids, as the play area features a high climbing frame. There’s a private function room for hire, offering a low-key vibe with great food and coffee.

Huddle Café (Central)

Located in St Johns, this family-friendly spot has a private function room that seats up to 25 people. There’s also a fenced indoor play area for toddlers and preschoolers.

Percy Cafe (South)

This Mangere favourite has a party room and a small playground outside (ideal for preschoolers). With great coffee, a tasty kids’ menu, and a peaceful setting, it’s a lovely option for families wanting something simple and stress-free.

Rise ’n Shine Café (Paerata Rise, Papakura)

You can hire the covered deck area at this family-friendly café, which is located right next to an awesome outdoor playground and water play zone. It’s a good idea to pack spare clothes!

Unique party venues

Looking for something a little different? These creative venues turn parties into memorable experiences — from baking with a chef to watching movies on the big screen.

Albany Stadium Pool Party Room (North)

Did someone say pool party?! You can hire a party room at Albany Stadium to celebrate with food and cake after the kids make a splash. Please note, normal supervision ratios apply (one adult per two children under five years old; and one adult for one child under five years old and three children aged between five and 10 years old).

Butterfly Creek (South)

Manukau’s favourite wildlife destination offers two birthday packages: a smaller option for 10 kids or a larger family package for 10 kids and 10 adults. Both packages include day passes to Butterfly Creek, as well as a magical lunch box for each guest.

Chelsea Sugar Factory (North)

Does your child love baking? They’ll love a Baking Party at the iconic Chelsea Sugar Factory in Shoal Bay. Each party includes a 2-hour baking lesson with an expert Patisserie Chef in the purpose-built Edmonds Baking School. All ingredients are included and each guest will get to take home their creation in a special box. The only catch? All food must be supplied by the Chelsea Sugar Café catering menu, although you can bring your own cake.

Silky Otter Cinema (Central)

If your kiddo loves movies, they’ll love the private cinema hire at Silky Otter. Celebrate with popcorn and the big screen. You can choose from the latest blockbusters or an old favourite, or even bring in home movies — how fun!
