Best bike tracks in Auckland for every age and stage

Looking for new places to roll? Whether your kid is just starting out, gaining confidence, or ready to tackle bumps and trails, Auckland has some great bike spots for every stage of riding from cruisy loops, to proper pump tracks and trails.

Learn-to-ride tracks

(Painted road markings, signs and flat paths)

Royal Reserve, Massey

A fun learn-to-ride track with road markings and roundabouts. It’s right next to the huge playground suitable for all ages and abilities, with toilets and parking onsite.

Normanton Reserve, Glenfield

Great for confident beginners. It feels like a learn-to-ride track, but introduces pump track elements like dips, curves, and small obstacles.

Avondale Learn-to-Ride Track

The Avondale learn-to-ride track is a huge asphalt area with road markings, crossings, and signs. There is so much space here, making it ideal for absolute beginners.

Tole Reserve, Ponsonby

Tole Reserve has a handy learn-to-ride loop beside the playground, plus a few beginner skate park elements just down the path for kids keen to try more!

Pump Tracks

(Dips, curves, and small obstacles)

Onepoto Domain, Northcote

Onepoto Domain has a track which is a great length for confident riders of balance bikes, scooters and training wheels. It’s a long looping path with pretend road markings and bridges. There are also two great playgrounds and plenty of carparks!

Hayman Park, Manukau

The pump track at Hayman Park playground is an excellent addition to the huge destination playground. The track is super wide and the slopes are gentle enough for balance bikes. Confident riders can head through the trees to the skate park for more adventurous riding.

Birkenhead War Memorial Pump Track

This concrete pump track is great for confident riders - there’s lots of bumps and obstacles to challenge all ages. There’s also a skate park on the other side of the carpark!

Grey Lynn Pump Track

The Grey Lynn pump track is for bikes only. There are multiple asphalt tracks designed for individual riders with painted markings to keep the flow moving. While kids have their own space when riding on the tracks, the whole park can often be busy with riders of all ages.

Woodall Park, Devonport

Woodall Park is home to a cool community built dirt pump track with learner dirt jumps, wooden ramps and step-ups. It’s great for kids wanting to explore BMX-style riding!

Bike trails

(Longer and more challenging rides)

Sanders reserve, Paremoremo

Sanders Reserve has many mountain bike trails, including a 500m trail designed for children and learner riders, which is an awesome introduction to off-road terrain.

Opanuku Stream Path and Cycleway, Henderson

The stream walk between Henderson and Henderson Valley is a 4km trail great for riders of all ages and experiences. Do the full track and back to make it an 8km ride, or just go part of the way and turn back. There’s multiple entrances including Henderson Park which has a playground and toilets available and is ideal for picking a shorter path to loop back.

A final note:

Don’t forget you can add filters to your Roam with Kids app to find walks that are pram friendly. Often these are perfect for balance bikes and learners too!
